The Secretary for Commerce, Industry and Technology, Mr Joseph W P Wong, met with the Mayor of Shenzhen, Mr Xu Zongheng, during his visit to Shenzhen on May 15.

The Secretary for Commerce, Industry and Technology, Mr Joseph WP Wong, met with the Mayor of Shenzhen, Mr Xu Zongheng, and officials of the Shenzhen Municipal Government during his visit to Shenzhen on May 15.

Mr Wong and Mr Xu discussed at the meeting ways to enhance co-operation between the two places. They exchanged views on the implementation of Mainland and Hong Kong Closer Economic Partnership Arrangement (CEPA); encouraging Shenzhen enterprises to make use of Hong Kong's services industry to invest in Hong Kong; and enhancing technology co-operation between Shenzhen and Hong Kong. Both sides agreed to further discuss the co-operation at working level.

During the meeting, Mr Wong expressed his gratitude for Shenzhen's efforts in strengthening economic and trade co-operation between the two sides. He believed that enhancing technology co-operation could bring about synergy and mutual benefits to both sides.

"Strengthening technology co-operation between Shenzhen and Hong Kong will actively promote the technology transfer, development and marketing of technological achievements, and will also be propitious to enhancing the productivity and competitiveness of industries in both places," he said.

Mr Wong also visited three factories set up by Hong Kong enterprises in Shenzhen to learn about their operations.
