Mr Ho Ka Man Edmond, Principal Environmental Protection Officer (Waste & Water Science) of the Hong Kong Environmental Protection Department, presented a paper on the Design and Application of an Integrated Geographic Information System (GIS) for the Pearl River Delta Water Quality Management at the Pan-PRD Regional Water Environment Protection Forum in Guangzhou on 1 September 2005.
In connection with the development of a water quality model for the Pearl River Delta, large amount of hydrological and water quality information in the Pearl River Delta region was collected.
The GIS provides a highly effective integrated system for managing the collected data as well as a platform for sharing the modelling information among the users. With the support of the concerned authorities, the GIS could be extended to cover the Pan-PRD region to facilitate regional environmental protection cooperation.
Mr Ho outlined the key features of the GIS and suggested potential applications for regional water quality management and pollution control.
