Hengqin New Area
Adjacent to Macao, Hengqin New Area is a 106.46 square-kilometer coastal island tucked into southern Zhuhai of Guangdong Province. The island has been approved as a New Area in order to enhance economic ties with Hong Kong and Macao. On Aug. 14, 2009, the State Council approved a proposed plan on the overall development of Hengqin and it will enjoy more preferential policies than the previous economic zones in Guangdong Province. On Mar. 24, 2015, it was included as a part of Guangdong Pilot Free Trade Zone.
In addition to financial and hi-tech industries, Hengqin is becoming a cultural and educational pilot area and an international business, service, recreational and travel base.
Within the radius of 100km in Hengqin, there are:
-- Five international and domestic airports: Hong Kong International Airport, Macau International Airport, Guangzhou International Airport, Shenzhen International Airport, Zhuhai Airport.
-- Four deepwater ports: Hong Kong Victoria Harbour, Zhuhai Gaolan Port, Guangzhou Nansha Port, Shenzhen Yantian Port.
-- Four expressways: Beijing-Zhuhai Expressway, Taiyuan-Macao Expressway, Coastal Expressway, and other main national-level expressways converge in Zhuhai.
-- Two rail transits: Guangzhou-Zhuhai Intercity Rail and Macao LRT are joined in Hengqin
-- Clearance procedures for residents of Hong Kong and Macao entering and leaving Hengqin are simplified, with 24-hour passage at the Lotus Bridge Checkpoint.
-- Administration of bonded or tax exempt production-related goods entering Hengqin from abroad has been conducted.
-- Production-related goods sold from areas of the Chinese mainland to Hengqin are treated as exports and enjoy tax refunds.
-- Eligible enterprises in Hengqin are taxed at a reduced rate of 15 percent.
